We’ve all been there.
You’re waiting for a program to load, a file to download or a huge e-mail to send. And for most of us (Mac or PC) that annoying little spinning icon / hourglass icon appears. And as long as it’s on our main screen it means we can’t do anything else until it disappears. We are held captive by the “spinner”. Or are we?
No. We are not.
For when that spinner appears and taunts me, I have come up with an alternative to the foot tapping… A different option than the frustrated scowls. A totally unique way to make my way through the desperate spinning wait…
I sing.
I have chosen a variety of songs that can be hummed along with the spinner, ones that will make your wait less painful and more fun. As I have been doing the research on the spinner for some time now, I have different hummable songs for different waits. Use them and enjoy them! I love knowing that all my time has finally gone to good use.
Spinner Time/Accompanying Song 5 secs / “Oh Susannah” (Uncredited) 10 secs / “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Charlie Daniels Band 15 secs / “Shut Up” by Black Eyed Peas 20 secs / “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin 25 secs / “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany 30 secs / “Axel F” from Beverly Hills Cop 35 secs / “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen 40 secs / “Wannabe” by Spice Girls 40+ secs / “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zepplin
These will work perfectly and once you experience the amazing lack of boredom that accompanies humming these tunes along with the spinner, you will never go back. Some individuals with a less than comprehensive knowledge of music have asked if there might be one tune in particular that could work for all time delays. And yes, there is one. It is:
“You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” by Neil Diamond & Barbra Streisand
Not as exciting as all the others, but it still works pretty damn good.

In other news — I purchased a pair of basketball sneakers tonight that can only be described by one word: “PHAT”.
