If I was the writer of Shrek 2 or the Producers of FOX’s The Swan I would so be suing the other person right now.
After watching the movie and the show over the course of the last few days (the movie over the weekend and the finale of the FOX show last night) I had a realization. Both pieces of entertainment are exactly the same. Seriously. Sure, one is CGI and the other is real (I think). Take a look:
Shrek 2 stars two “ugly ogres” who want to be pretty-looking human beings so they can be the center of attention in their kingdoms. The Swan stars a bunch of “ugly ducklings” who want to be pretty-looking human beings so they can be the center of attention in their neighborhoods.
Shrek 2 has a constantly-talking sidekick who narrates the action at various points, and just happens to be a donkey. The Swan has a constantly-talking British host who narrates the action at various points, and just happens to be an ass.
Shrek 2 highlights all of Shrek’s friends and allies, including a group of three blind mice. The Swan highlights a group of doctors, trainers and allies, who all clap their hands at their finished products and are all obviously blind.
Shrek 2 takes pot shots at a variety of pop-culture references. The Swan features a bunch of women taking shots.
Shrek 2 has a well-written script full of hilarious moments and funny lines. The Swan has a stable of women who have funny lines.
Shrek 2 is a computer-generated motion picture made up of ones and zeros. The Swan is just full of zeros.
Mind you, those are just some of the similarities… But I think when you really put the pedal to the paper and switch your pen for a pencil you can clearly see the forest from the trees on this one.
You know?
