I’m with you on this one Paul… the bread bowl, while it seems like a good idea… is really a horrible, horrible idea. I assume that you’ve taken soup from one of these spooned out hunks of dough… it sucks… the bread starts to flake off, getting all in your soup… ruining you precious split pea heaven.
Whomever came up with the idea to make these out of sourdough needs to be stoned… we’re not ladling marinara here… we’re trying to warm up our insides with chicken noodle goodness.
While it does give you more to eat, beyond just a bowl of soup… the amount that you’re ingesting is on par with consuming an entire loaf… not to mention how messy it is… I just want to eat my food with a spoon and move on, I’m not worried about having to pick apart my bowl by hand as well… then carefully finger it so I don’t get soup all over the place… what if I was eating my lunch on a break from work, while I simultaneously try to blog and comment of the blogs of others… I’m not too keen on having soup in my keyboard… and I don’t feel like dishing out large amounts of money to replace my MacBook Pro from which I work.
Yeah, I’m behind you all the way buddy.

Bread Bowl 2007 Update. The choices now are chili or tortilla soup. Chicken noodle has been taken off the menu. I have three more days to decide but I’m leaning towards tortilla soup. I might have to take it with the bread bowl but I refuse to eat any part of the bread bowl. I might not get a present this year.

I made fun of my future in-law’s bread bowls the first Christmas I spent with them and they’ve never let me forget. This Christmas’ choice — chili or chicken noodle.
