Transcription Thursday: The “Diet” Shopping List

February 1st, 2007

I found the following crumpled up list outside my local supermarket yesterday:

Healthy Eating Plan 2007
Good fruits (apples, oranges, grapes)
Green vegetables (pre-made salad, cucumbers, onions)
Yogurt (one for each day, not to exceed 8 a week)
Wheat bread (or seven grain)
Water (2.5 gallon jug, 8 glasses a day)
Sorbet (low sugar, sweet treat)
Corn dogs (fulfills protein quotient)
Roast beef (from deli, not pre-packaged)
Vanilla wafers (in moderation, see label for serving size)
Dark chocolate (square a day, good for the blood)
Kettle corn (no sugar alternative snack)
Canned sweet potatoes
Canned fruit
Diet Coke
Grape Nuts

      Looks like they left off:

      Laxatives (to purge system daily)
3lbs Bananas (to counter loss of potassium from laxatives)
Jeans (that don’t make me look fat)

      and

Call Sydney (eating disorder counselor/sponsor) “Work is hell. This week is going to be tough.”

Thus, understanding the reason why you found the list crumpled up outside of the store……

Thankyou so much for posting this. I must have been so distracted by the fact that earlier yesterday, I wasted $20 on the “See-where-the-stars-live” bus tour, and your home wasn’t on the tour, that I lost this at your local grocery store. And now I learn that you were there, probably only moments after I left. Can you believe my luck????

So, while I was there, I saw this homeless guy standing outside and so I asked him and he said he didn’t know where you reside but if I find out, to please get back to him with that information.

Anyway, I thought my healthy eating plan for 2007 was shot down the drain until you so kindly posted it here for me on your blog. What a small world we live in.

      Thanks as always Pauly D!

Jacquie - It was yours? You like Grape Nuts? Wow. I didn’t think anyone liked Grape Nuts.

THAT is the SADDEST LIST EVER!

      Paul,

Did you know grapenuts is made of wheat and barley? Do I enjoy it? Not neccesarily, but I thought it would be a healthful subsitute to wean myself off of beer, which is very fattening, you know?

Jadepark, what is so wrong with my list???? That was a very judgemental thing to say. It’s a great list. Look how detailed and precise. For example, while in the bread section, I might normally go for the 12 grain, but then I remember, that’s just wasted grain that would not benefit my 2007 health plan. My body would just waste it, so why pay for the extra 5 grains???

It covers all major food groups and thanks to canned fruit and sweet potatoes, and corn dogs, which everyone knows the main ingredient is corn since corn is listed first, duh, (as opposed to the kettle corn, in which corn is listed second, but the kettle, listed first, provides my daily reccomended requirement of iron, in case you didn’t realize) I can get my produce group year round. I was really thinking ahead here.

You’ll notice I also made sure to remind myself of how many yogurts I can have a week. One for each of the 8 days. Because any more than that will make me bloated.

The greatest thing about this shopping list is that I eat for a mere $53.74 cents a week which is very reasonable. All that and a healthy body. Who could ask for more?

corn dogs on a healthy eating list!? ha ha.

    8. Gravatar

i’m with ms. sizzle–since when did corndogs become healthy?

and hello? vanilla wafers, canned fruit, yogurt (presumably not plain), kettle corn and canned sweet potatoes? can you say “high glycemic index”?

    9. Gravatar

Jacquie-I admire your discipline! But I think we should eat what we want, when we want, not plan our meals for days ahead! :) You only live once!

    10. Gravatar

At first, I wondered where the “healthy” items were, what with all those yogurts. But then I saw the corn dogs (which fulfills the protein quotient) and it all made sense.

thanks for stopping by… you’ve got some interesting stuff here. i hope i haven’t bored you by not updating recently. cheers…

I once made a list like that except it read more like this:

      Frozen Veggies (Because they’re cheap)
      Potatoes (because they’re cheap)
A barrel of rice (if worse comes to worse)
Cabernet (Best be safe and grab three bottles.)
      A job.

And Jacquei, you are my favorite commentator.

Corn dogs?!! On a list called “healthy eating plan”? Unintentional humor at its best.

    14. Gravatar

After I’m done with my lists I leave them in carts or on a random shelf. I wonder why this person can’t have more than 8 yogurts a week? Goofy.

    15. Gravatar

      my question is:
if the Corn dogs fulfill the protein quotient, why would you waste the money, and time at the deli, to purchase the roast beef?
