Words For Your Enjoyment: The WOMP
March 31st, 2006
Today is a day that will live in infamy.
For instead of giving you words for your enjoyment here on this site, I am instead directing you to check out the brand spanking-new, shiny and lovely Official Website for The Lost Blogs.
While there, you’ll be able to read excerpts from the book, peruse press clippings and videos, read about news, signings and appearances and even purchase items in the WOMP store.
Oh, right. What’s the WOMP?
The World Organization for Manuscript Preservation. Responsible for unearthing these fictitious digital blogs that populate the book that is called The Lost Blogs, already previously referenced in paragraph two. With a rich history that only the insane could craft — the WOMP might as well be real. In fact, maybe it is. Perhaps.
So go. Enjoy. Learn something.
Wow. When I walked from the Vasa Museet to the Nordiska Museet, I must have went right by W.O.M.P. Headquarters in Stockholm and never even knew it!
Oh well. Fortunately The Lost Blogs will compensate for this omission in nordic tourist opportunities, and allow me to see what I missed without the expense of another trip to Sweden!

Hey Pauly. I’m glad you put your CNN interviews on there. Those were great! I am hoping that if the HGTV ever airs your home makeover episode, you will somehow incorporate that into one of your many wonderful websites.

I got a bit of a preview a little before the launch because there was a link on my webstats from thelostblogs.com/press and I was able to view that page. I liked it a lot and was going to say something on my blog but didn’t want to ruin any of your surprise.
I love the stock symbol. That’s a nice touch.
Any chance of a national tour for the book?

I must say, I would enjoy it even if the content was crap (which it is certainly not- very fun!!) because I enjoy saying “womp.”

Kevin - You know, when I was checking the links I clicked through from that page to your site and had an “uh oh” moment — cause I wanted to keep it a surprise. And knowing you’re obsessed with stats, I knew it was too late. Still, thanks for keeping it quiet before today.
As for a national book tour - there will be a national radio and print campaign with signings on the West Coast at the moment. As we get closer we’ll have a better sense of where else I’ll pop up in the country.

very cool. definitely makes me want to buy your book (but i’d already put it on pre-order, so we’ll never really know if it would have REALLY propelled me to buy it, but i’m sure it would!). book signing in walnut creek is the nearest to me–i’ll be missing that one, unfortunately! i am off to hedgebrook in june.

Yes, but what if I want MORE? Like for gifts? Because I am, at heart, a greedy sort.
And then there’s the high liklihood that my entries won’t, in fact, be “killer.” I’m actually quite concerned about them. We shall see.

SEEE? I didn’t even get the DUKE joke! I AM DOOOOOMED! And I think I might have that “word salad” thing from “Boston Legal.” Because I keep substituting words, like yesterday I said “bread” instead of “towel.” I may have had a small stroke.

Within my family’s possessions are the rare pages of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet: alternate ending, a Director’s Cut if you will, written by the master himself at the request of the Queen.
Also, Paul, you should contact certain decendents of James Madison and inquiry about obtaining the publishing rights of his Federalist Blogs between himself and Alexander Hamilton. I believe in these unedited posts, never released to the public, you will find the earliest written uses of the term “F the Man!”

yes, i’ve been lurking for awhile. but i’m compelled now to blather here for 3 reasons:
1. i look forward to the WFME post that will spring forth from you doing a book signing in Skokie. you know you need to.
2. the whole DoD-not-airing thing is still troubling. even i cannot get a straight answer from Other People That We Know. and your show’s producer has been moved to another show. will continue asking discreet questions.
3. WOMP is real: i’ve recently been enjoying a blog (http://houseoffame.blogspot.com/) written by Geoffrey Chaucer himself, or actually, hymsylf. i’m quite sure you, and WOMP, were responsible for him finally posting after 750 years.

Hadashi - Skokie is so going to happen. As for DoD not airing, it will air April 20th at 3pm. Opposite Oprah. In the middle of the afternoon. They must either hate us or really not care.
As for the Chaucer thing, yes… All WOMP’s doing.
