Your Words About Abercrombie & Fitch

February 16th, 2006

It’s not often that I quote WFME readers’ comments.

But over the past nine months after posting this piece in which I detail how I would live my life if I were an Abercrombie & Fitch model, I have realized that a satirical piece about the model-like A&F style and staff who work in the shopping mall-esque stores has hit a chord, across the board.

I would like to address some of those comments here today.

Above all, as I sifted through the comments on this particular post it became clear to me that beyond Iraq and Iran, that beyond the battle against terrorism, there is a class struggle going on between those who work at A&F stores and those who don’t. There’s a deep-rooted anger in the American psyche regarding this very issue. For example, see what Lance has to say, who is just plain fed-up with being considered so pretty:

“Why do you people harbor so much anger towards those who do model for A&F, and even people like me who work there? To some of us it is merely a job that pays our bills. Not everyone who works there (including myself) comes from rich families. Some of us are struggling to get by. Also, in our defense we are not all rude, cruel, and shallow. Honestly, it isn’t right to profile everyone who works for A&F as stuck-up, rich, white brats. For the simple fact that not everyone is…”

But for every guy just trying to get by hocking terry-cloth half-shirts and pre-ripped jeans as created by a CEO who looks like the kid from MASK, there’s someone who proves that working at A&F is part of a Stepford-like brain-washing process. For example, there’s Blaine who says:

“Everyone knows that A&F hires only Rich white Americans, and i’m one of them. We’re stuck up and we all have straight white teeth. It’s a pre-requesite to be rude to work in the A&F stores.”

Aah, and so the sheen of the A&F model model starts to get tarnished. There is an underground world, it seems, populated by such brainwashed A&F staff members, that is further supported by what Ryan has to say:

“I work at Abercrombie, and I love it there. People always judge me just because I work there, and you know what, they are right. Abercrombie is not going to hire ugly people to work there. It’s just part of life, get used to it. I always get crap from the food court people because I work there, and thats fine, there are just mad that they work fast food, and I get to look at girls all day.”

Society can be broken down into two groups. The one group who has to work in the food court and the other group that gets to look at pretty girls all day. And if you try to fight against the trend, people like Megan will step up with their trademark “A&F excited-nonsense talk” and try to confuse you all at once:

“Ok you know what? I like A&F!! You are awesome dude! I don’t care if you all dont like the store, but stop being mean to those who do. Stop talking trash about the store and the models. Dont be mad cuz ur ugly, short, weak and dont have a tan. Be nice to those who are fortunate and have great looks! Your just mad because you cant afford ANYTHING in Abercrombie & Fitch! Just because your broke doesnt mean you can degrate the store. Go get a job and buy some abercrombie clothes…trust us. It’s for the best. p.s. dude (a&f model) your awesome! A&F ROX!!!”

“Go get a job and buy some Abercombie clothes…trust us.” A phrase that rung out in my head, echoing like a bad line from Soylent Green. I mean, what if Megan was right? What if by buying the clothes and trusting the A&F collective, I would feel better? What if I wasn’t so ugly, wasn’t so short and weak and DID have a tan? The words were starting to sway me. Until I read this comment from Glen:

“Oh, and one more thing, just because A&F dudes tongue wrestle other dudes doesn’t mean they’re gay… just being helpful to other hot looking dudes without a convenient chick. *NOD*”

[Insert record scratching, STOP EVERYTHING, sound.]

What? A&F dudes tongue wrestling because there are no women around? Is that what it all comes down to? I get it if we’re in the middle of a war and trapped on an island and there’s no food or anything around. But in everyday, American society? Tongue-wrestling with fellow male workers? WHAT!? Is the A&F model/store-worker subculture really that cut and dry? Look good, look tan, be strong, wear clothes, tongue wrestle and make fun of the food court people?

Sometimes you uncover an ugly part of society that Oprah should be doing a show about, and it really sobers you up. With this A&F situation, that definitely occured to me. There was a real hidden mystery I had uncovered, and I realized that if there was to be another exciting development, I would have to dig deeper. I would have to investigate. Even Kate agreed that I should hire a cameraman immediately:

“i think that this is the funniest thing ive ever read!! i printed it out and put it in my locker. i think that you should hire someone with a camera to follow you where ever you go so that anywhere and anywhere is a photo shoot. that would be cool. Then you could have your own personal camera man!! you should also have a wardrobe assitant on hand at all times then you could change your clothes based on the ‘mood lighting’ that you are in. then you could look hott in any room!!!”

But in the end, no matter the support (thanks, Kate!), the ridiculing (“…how about you stop trying to act so cool…”), or the just plain ‘ol happy-go-lucky Stepford like support that is supposed to turn me onto the dark side (“…you are so cool.”) there is one constant that shakes me to the core…

Abercrombie & Fitch is brain-washing the youth of America.

Straight teeth or not. Tan or not. Classic-model head-nod or not. We must stand strong against the non-food court workers. We must be proud of our ugliness. We must work at places like Hickory Farms and The Body Shop. We must stand up against tongue wrestling!

Only when we are victorious may we sit down and rest our calf-implanted calves.

I can’t stand up against tongue wrestling. Or the ripped abs of the A&F models. Because I’m shallow and I love kissing. I’m outside of the target demographic of A&F but that doesn’t mean I don’t slow down when walking past the store because the giant pictures of the hot (yes, probably gay) models make me want to run over and pet their rock hard abs.

I’m obviously going for the nosensical comment today.

    2. Gravatar

Amber - Yeah, good work on that nonsensical thing. Maybe I should add your comment to tomorrow’s post about people who leave comments while intoxicated and hopped up on Elmer’s glue.

    3. Gravatar

oh man, i’m so glad you did this. that thread is hilarious. make sure everyone sees the picture of Mr. Abercrombie himself! blech.

    4. Gravatar

I never shopped at A&F. I too am outside the target demographic. Plus, they don’t carry Urban Sombreo’s.

    5. Gravatar

Sorry about the spelling… Urban Sombrero. You know us catalog models don’t care about book learnin.

    6. Gravatar

I used to shop in A&F when it first hit the East Coast and they were selling some great thick chunky sweaters. Then the sweaters stopped and that was when I realized I too was trending out of their demographic. I also realized The Cosby show was only on in syndication and Family Ties wasn’t on at all and thick chunky sweaters were only acceptable in Rusty Ski Lodges in Vermont and only if you have a good merlot, an attractive but mousy and frigid partner, and you could trace you family back to the Mayflower.

I giggle now when I pass A&F but I don’t hate those inside. Every generation has an epicenter of fashion and materialistic, shallow mindsets. Mine was Gap and Structure (remember that pre-metrosexual male Express shop?). Youth and Beauty fade, except that and flaunt it while you have it. Sooner or later those A&F models will start to look really stupid in those tight, faded Tees and used boot cut jeans. And their rock hard abs will give way to love handles. Then again, I was always pretty good-looking so I really never understood how it is not to be checked out routinely.

    7. Gravatar

oops. I meant accept not except. But you knew that and also assume good looking types can’t spell.

    8. Gravatar

we don’t have that store here, i feel somewhat deprived.

    9. Gravatar

I’ve never been to an Ambercrombie and Fitch shop but it feels like I would fit in very well there. I am ridiculously pretty. And I am often mistaken for a man-tongue wrestler.

Are you not in 9rules anymore? Am I allowed ask about that in public? Did you write too much about boobies?

How exactly does one win a tongue wrestling match?

    10. Gravatar

I’m a little sick and tired of you writing these so-called “satirical” pieces on A&F. Sure I’m white, rich, and gorgeous. What’s wrong with that? Is it my fault that I was born into the lap of luxury and always get thing my way? You should just be happy that I actually bother typing the keys to write on this so-called “humor” blog. Or should we call it “humor-less.”

I work at A&F for one reason and one reason only. Because everyone else there is good-looking and rich like me. I don’t particularly like the clothes, but I sell it because THAT’S MY JOB. Of course, I don’t need the money, but what am I going to do all day, write an unfunny so-called blog like you do. Get a life. You know I’m great looking. Grow up and accept it, Pauly D. And I’m assuming that D. stands for “Dummy!” So, there! Who’s the “satrical” one now?

    11. Gravatar

Pierce - Yeah, WFME is no longer associated with 9rules. Nothing sinister — I just decided it was time to return WFME to it’s singular, unaffiliated-roots.

Neil - Can you get me a discount on the clothing at A&F?

    12. Gravatar

Jerry, you mean they’ll all look like this some day?

    13. Gravatar

I knew it was just a matter of time before Kristine posted that picture of the A&F CEO. He’s like a mix between Hellboy and, uh, someone who got third degree burns in a taffy factory.

    14. Gravatar

I only date A&F models…sometimes I date the guys who work in the stores so I can attend the super secret tongue fight clubs.

    15. Gravatar

Well, Kristine maybe not that bad, but yes we all fade some with time. And Paul, nice analogy of how the CEO looks.

    16. Gravatar

that CEO makes me nervous, no really he does. he gave me the jibblies.

I would like to thank A&F for introducing themselves to me when I was a teen. You made me realize how INSANE it is to fork over $100 for a pair of jeans. You showed me which friends needed a label and which didn’t. and to this day, (11 years and counting) I have never owned anything from you. OHHH, and I am SO in your demographic….AHHHHH SNAP!

    17. Gravatar

I can’t pronounce “Abercrombie & Fitch”. It just won’t come out of my mouth. The closest thing that will is “A crummy bitch”. Honestly. Abercrombie & Fitch should go down as one of the hardest to pronounce words in my vocabulary.

    18. Gravatar

and by being in the demographic, I mean applying 3 layers of spackle to my face, getting my hair professionally done, and sucking in my stomach, then I think I got one foot in there…..

    19. Gravatar

Kathleen - You are such a bad liar. Your have an A&F tattoo, don’t you?

    20. Gravatar

WHATEVER. I’m not inviting you to the glass house “house warming” party I just heard about.

    21. Gravatar

Okay…that thing doesn’t even look human. I’m scared; really, really scared.

    22. Gravatar

For the record: that is not me who said that. I don’t even know what tongue wrestling is!

    23. Gravatar

Ah, how well I remember my introduction to Abercrombie & Fitch. I was in college and my friend handed me the catalog. I looked through it in stunned silence for awhile before managing to sputter somewhat coherently, “So what do they sell?”

“Clothes,” my friend answered (”moron” was implied).

I looked up at her with wide, innocent eyes and asked, “Then why aren’t the models wearing any?”

    24. Gravatar

I’m stuck on the ugly, short, weak and no tan thing, Pauly. And you coming from L.A., too.

      Such a shame.

    25. Gravatar

I work at the ANF (not A&F) home office and i must say aside from the really dumb hot boys who man the front desk it is truely sacry to see on a daily basis grown adults - so far out of the ANF demographic - attempting to pull of what their son/daughter is wearing to school (but at least they can share clothes). the muffin tops pouring over the waist bands of the women and the all the flip flops - dead of winter - focused on the brand - dedacation of the finest. I daily feeling like poking my eyes out so I no longer have to be tortured by the visuals.

    26. Gravatar

Ok, first of all i would like to say that Abercrombie and Fitch is not a cult. Brainwashing has nothing to do with selling clothes. And Abercrombie is not the first to put tan, muscular, straight-teeth people in their adds, it happens all the time. for the people that are so ugly that they feel they have to make fun of the store, i feel bad for you.

    27. Gravatar

OMG! A&F is such a good store. Expensive but I’m rich so it doesn’t matter! I live in a mansion!
Well anywho…just wanted to say that Abercrombie is awesome! Hot guys too!

      Sommer

    28. Gravatar

oh my godd!! these guys are hott. i live in the uk and i dont think we have any abercrombi and fitch stores, but from the pics ive seen there clothes are kool!!and i cant get over how increadably good loking the models are i think you should open up some a&f stores over here id deffo shop there!!!

    29. Gravatar

I purchased $100 gift card at A&F for a Christmas gift. Imagine my surprise when I found out there was nothing on the card. I called customer service which would not give out the corporate information, they said they would take care of it. It has been some time now and I have heard nothing and probably wont. Abercrombie & Fitch allows their employees to steal from their customers and refuses to do anything about it. If you want someone to steal from you then shop there, if not don’t.

Hey everyone. I just want to say that I loved this article!
And… meh. Some people are getting a bit too uptight - not that it’s unnatural.
Hyeah… Abercrombie and Fitch spend way too much time focusing on their models rather than their clothes. No wonder everything’s so expensive.
But I’d rather use my money for better causes than help feed people who are already that rich. Go GreenPeace and UNICEF! :)
Anyways, even though this article was funny. It brings up a really good point as to where we should be spending our resources on. I mean since the whole store is so rich already… It doesn’t really make sense to buy their overpriced stuff.
And secondly, A&F and other popular brands (like Hugo Boss etc.) are seriously brain-washing people as to how they should look. I mean if we’re living in another universe - what’s ugly here might be pretty there so what’s the point?
And last of all, I would also like to point out that I watched this video on modelling. This random teenage girl got her photos taken and the photographer photo editted it so she was twice as thin (and I mean, I found that girl was quite pretty and she wasn’t even a little fat). It brought her to tears… :( So, what you see on those posters might not be 100% model (though of course it could be).

Anyways, great article. I think you’ll make a great comedian or maybe even a journalist! Despite the fact that some people were ranting I thougth you presented the issue on a pretty neutral platform. Good job!

      Blessed be,
      Nick

AH…I found it very interesting to have read the posts that some of you have written. As a current manager at A&F, i feel as though some of my thoughts should be included in this enjoyable conversation, to which has started from some judgemental, igorant person.
Before i begin i would just like to point out a few facts of the business that you have undoubtably know nothing about. First off, Abercombie and Fitch is a fashionable clothing store whose main pirority and focus is on those whose fashion sense keens the style of todays world. I dont know what you wear or what your sytle of choice is, but i can, from fact, say that you are clearly on the top 20 of fashion donts on MTV. From that, i now understand why walking around in all black, chains hangin from your wallet down to your feet, not to mention, the many studs stuck in your face which match the many tattoos all of your body would sustain a good fashion sense in your book. I can see why you would look at a nice looking guy/girl wearing a polo and ripped jeans would fall into the category of snobsUSA. On the other hand, good fashion sense lays in the hand of the beholder. But i can, however, tell you that good fashion sense doesnt classify people. Because if that were the case that you would fall in the FreakUSA category. Am i right?
Many people feel as if Abercombie and Fitch was made to subject people into the model world of skinny anorexics and skin cancer. But i am here to say that just because people WHO wear thier clothes, it doesnt subject them to those self-harming behaviors. We want people to look good and feel good. Think of it like this…. We dont make clothes for fat people because we want people to live healthy and to beat the world epidemic of obsesity. It gives motivation to those at hand. Plus, we clearly see EVERYONE who represents the brand, a A&F model.. we would like to see our clothes fit nicely. Tanning on the other hand is a choice that everyone has. Back in the day we used to slave the black man because of his color. Here at A&F we like to point out the gift of diversity. IF our models are tan, they can be looked at as something other than the white american.
As far as good looks are involved, everyone wants to see good looking people. IT makes for great visual advertising. My question to you is.. what classifys good looking? People who work out? People who tan? We hire those whose sense of style marks A&F’s style and have great personalities.
Above all, Abercombie and Fitch is a clothing store to which you have the choice to walk in or walk by. We dont pressure people to wear our brand, just as we dont pressure you to get the 85th tattoo. Instead of spending 150 dollars on a tattoo, we spend it on a nice pair of EZRA FITCH jeans.. WE live in a world of choice. So dont complain about it, dont even worry about it. Live your life as we live ours. Just remember, next time you walk by Abercombie and Fitch, we are laughing at you just as much as you are laughing at us…

    32. Gravatar

All i have to say is… haha funny. Don’t act like it wouldn’t be sweet to be rich and look like a model. The only thing holding you back is your own perspective on you, do what you must to make it happen. Everyone laughs at everyone, but in the end we’ll all laugh at ourselves.

    33. Gravatar

I think that the way America looks at it should change. because if
we don’t. The industry will think that we like it and put more stuff
like what we see at the latest A&F and Holister stores. I think we should show a little back bone and stand up for what is right for once, and not just eat the prapaganda that the media is feeding us.

    34. Gravatar

I sincerey hope that kristin’s comment was complete satire as i am currently being sick into my own shoe (probably from disgust, but possibly from fear of obesity and unbeautifulness) and i shall now feel inferior for the rest of my sorry days as a mere mortal. I have just been given a job at the uk abercrombie store (not as a model mind) and no doubt i shall crawl through the store in shame past the beautiful army of abercrombie boys and girls, the shower of ‘hi, how are ya?’s and the enormous torsos that adorn all walls to the dark murky depths of the stockroom away from the public eye. anyone know where can you get the best price on lipo…

    35. Gravatar

Abercrombie and fitch is a company. They make money-lots of it- and they want more money. They don’t care what we think because whatever it is they are doing is working wonders. It’s unfortunate that people feel discriminated against or offended but the only thing that can be done is just to avoid the store. Their rules aren’t going to change anytime soon. Their image and the image of their employees is what keeps them in power. Like it or not.

    36. Gravatar

ok. here’s the deal. Yeah, I LIKE Abercrombie. No, I’m not rich.
Yes, MOST of my friends shop there, but not all of them. It’s a store people, if you don’t like it, bottom line: DON’T SHOP THERE.
Oh, and about the staff? I have a neighbor who works there. She’s a senior in highschool, and she’s an all honors student, probably one onf the nicest girl’s you’ll ever meet. She got asked to work at A&F because of her good looks, but does that mean she’s an automatic stuck-up brainwashed rich white bitch? NO.
Models work everywhere, not just Abercrombie.

So let me wear my abercrombie jeans and don’t judge me. Do i judge you because you don’t shop there? No, I don’t think so.

Whatever. I just don’t see why your all obsessing over this. It’s not even a designer store. Try buying jeans from Theory. That’s a designer store. Abercrombie is just a clothing store who happens to have regular-prices clothing and extremly good-looking models. If you have a problem with that, fine. The end.

    37. Gravatar

alright, so im not going to lie…i love abercrombie and everything about it. Its basically my life, everything i own is abercrombie. Back in the day when I was a young boy of 10, my mom used to take me to the states to shop there, and ive grown up with it. The clothing is trendy, comfortable, and top quality. Growing up with it has turned me into the person I am today. I now work at the first abercrombie to open in Canada. Theres some at my store, including me who think we’re better then everyone else…because we are. We work at a&f. All of us models are hot! Myself, im stuck up, snobby, and rude…I’ll give you guys that point that mostly all the brand reps at a&f are. Especially in the U.S.

About the food court comment, I can totatly relate…when we walk through the mall, everyone knows we work there and we’re mostly all proud of it…atleast the die-hard a&f folk are. McDonalds workers wish they worked at our store, but we dont accept grease monkeys.

I wanted to make a shirt that said “Abercrombie & Fitch, where you wish you worked” thats basically my personal vision of our store. Ill end with that!

    38. Gravatar

Wooww, way to make Abercrombie look terrible (this is to 99% of the “supporters” out there).

I like their clothes. That is why I shop there. Yes, alot of them are rude sometimes. But, you know what? They’re not that good looking. Sorry. There’s always someone better. Take a look at Gisele (and to someone else, she may be disgusting). Point is, step off your high horse. All of you. Even the anti-a&f people.

The quality of their clothes is great. Some of their jeans are even not ripped. Shocking, I know. They make my favorite polos.

But PacSun and American Eagle are good too and Hollister’s all right but the quality isn’t as great.

We’re not talking about Theory and True Religion here, guys. This is just Abercrombie.

    39. Gravatar

What is the guys name? he is so hot!

    40. Gravatar

Wow . I’d have to say that this is a pretty interesting forum. I’d like to point something out though. Just stop for a second and think about it . Were Abercrombie ( and Fitch) workers brainwashed by the store ? Those who were snotty , stuck-up, and anything else you can call it , were like that before they were hired to work and A n F . Some are stuck-up and some of them are the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Although , I have never confronted a A n F worker that was stuck up . They have always been happy and outgoing. I am not stuck up and I got offered a job there 3 times already.. Hmmmm… and about the whole look ..Picture a store with fashionable clothing and that picture always posted in the walkway , having a Good looking person posing. Wouldn’t this image be distorted with a person thats not that greatlooking. Also my Highschool has to start wearing uniforms at the start of next year. In my opinion , this is due to all the students that wear 5xl shirts and durags or the people that are always wearing all black with chains hanging and black makeup . The abercrombie look also represents a clean , exiting look.

    41. Gravatar

wow all i have to say is wow. In my opinion A&F is the most brilliant marketing scheme ever. As A&F starts to loose popularity with the young, guess what they do, bring in a new store, Hollister.
I dont care about rich white guys/girls working in the store, because just to let you know for any non desperate girl good looking or not you look like a fag. What kind of guy models in a store. FAGS. Go ahead be snobby and act like its not your fault your rich and that you shouldn’t be blamed for being beautiful because your right. All except for the fact that you dont deserve that money your parents made. What are you going to do when their company goes under. Well you are screwed and it will be the people who worked hard for their money that will say you no what screw you. Just because you are rich does not give you the right to undertreat the people in the food court. You have no right to be vain and if you “tongue Wrestle” then that proves my point earlier YOUR DESPERATE YOUR A FAG. go suck some guys dick, but dont tell me about it. Go on a shopping spree but for us actually involved citizens trying to do reports on businesses dont fuck the internet up with your crap about you are better than the underclass people. For us non rich kids im pretty happy with my life. I dont have to wake up in the morning look in the mirror and be like if there is a HELL im going to it because of how vain i am. ITS ONE OF THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS. Don’t try to sound smart, choose one rich and snobby where everythings been handed to you, or rich and hardworking where even though you are rich you work hard and can support yourself without your parents. One more thing if you are so rich then dont use the ITS MY JOB excuse because im sure your trust fund is big enough that you wont have to work for the res of your life.

    42. Gravatar

Okay, I get that people think AnF models are gay because they have good taste in clothes. But that’s saying guys who shop there are gay too. It’s not true though. I love AnF and Hollister. Although some of the models are gay there is also something called metrosexual, so it can be casual too! I think that the reason AnF has half-naked models outside the stores because lets face it, most hot girls are attracted to hot guys. So Hot girls go in there after hot guys and clothes. And yes there clothes are expensive but you can go to hollister too, its the same company. There clothes are expensive because that’s the style and they’re good clothes that last! Also, its true they don’t hire ugly models because no one wants to come into a store with ugly people, but the do hire not so hot workers. I think that a lot of guys think AnF models are gay because they’re hot and girls are attracted to them, so they’re jealous! All I have left to say is AnF is a great store, and for the guys- if your favorite store had hot girls modeling outside it would you like it if people wante to take it away because other less hot girls called them lesbians and sluts. I don’t think so!

    43. Gravatar

Again . I have to say Sam M. is right. My aunt bought me a gift card.. Yeh shes 25 but hey . when she saw the goodlookin( the people that are “gay” as some people say it which isnt true)model in front of the store, she was impressed . and didd my some clothes for herself. If that guy was fat and ugly do u think she wouldve even went in?

    44. Gravatar

paul davidson is hot!! i would so date him if i knew him and lived near him!!

    45. Gravatar

Are the people that shop in Abercrombie & Fitch THAT narcissistic?! Reading their comments, it strikes me as rather worrying. They rate themselves rather highly. Who cares if you shop or work in Abercrombie & Fitch? I don’t think they’re attractive people.

Some of the prettiest or stylish people I’ve ever seen in my life would never touch anything by Abercrombie, they shop in charity shops and vintage stores and cut their hair themselves, or whatever…

Mass manufactured clothes dampen any sense of individual style that someone might have. Fair enough, it’s pretty much being used as a status symbol, it’s the way society works & always has done, but that doesn’t make it attractive.

I have nothing against the people that work there, except their seemingly narcissistic attitude which might want to be checked out.

& being wealthy has nothing to do with being more stylish, it just means you can afford more over-priced, cleverly marketed clothes (however nice or not they may well be). Well done. Possibly more money than sense.

Aspire to be something so much more than a pretty face, surely it’d make you feel so much more accomplished and proud?!

It also seems that there’s a rather large difference between what us Brits find, in general, attractive and what Americans find attractive.

Less of the stubby nosed, toned, blonde floppy haired, white-toothed boys please!

OH GOSH! AND all of this “so and so are just jealous of us, they want to be like us & work where we work because it’s the best.”
Please shut up because it’s simply not true & it makes you sound ridiculous. People are laughing at you, not wanting to be you.

Mix & match guysssss, mix designer with high-street & vintage & thrift store stuff. Aspire to be you, not the ethic (or lack of) one store.

I love Abercrombie, their clothing is cute good quality and over priced, but hey, if you can afford it, then why not? I’ve had Abercrombie stuff for years and it still looks brand new. The shop models are cool, and they’re not all bad. One of the nicest girls I’ve ever known works at Abercrombie. She’s African-American too. I think people judge Abercrombie too much. If you want clothes, go in with a credit card. If you want to judge the shop models, go in and get them to fill out a questionnaire.

I am 16, by no means rich, a bit overweight, and not exactly the best looking guy around. And throughout my shopping at A&E, I have never met a rude employee. Now I am not saying there isn’t any, but name one place that doesn’t have any! Hollister is more my style, and thier employees have always gone out of thier way to help me find something. And seeing as how Hollister is owned by Abercrombie, Whats the difference? Also, I dare say that half the people claiming to work for A&E on here are posers trying to make them look bad. Bottom line, don’t like em, don’t shop there.

To me I just think that Ambercombie and Fitch is a great store for teens now and days. We love to shop where the clothes looks good on different people and how they just fit will. The employess who works there are sweet and kind thet also greet you with a respectful tone of voice they also make you feel welcome so that’s why I choose to shop at A&F when ever I go to the mall.

Many people ought to be ashamed of themselves on this blog. you let a CLOTHING STORE bring you to such anger, despisment, and even ignorance. I can not personally recall the last time I walked past A&F and someone held a gun to my head and FORCED me to come in. We are talking about clothes here…theres world hunger that needs to be stopped and cures to be found and all some ppl are doing is being very rude to others over a dang clothing store.

If someone likes the store that does not mean you are brainwashed and want to conform. By not shopping there you are still conforming! You conform to ignorant Americans who cant be appreciative of others…and I understand why. There are people with an IQ of a kindergartner bragging about living in a mansion and being rich. Newsflash:just because ppl dont walk around with their heads up their butt doesnt mean their not rich! I know many many rich ppl who where what feels comfortable to them. THey could definitelly where the pricier brands but choose not because they dont care…you know why they dont care cause IT DOESNT MATTER!

Yes, I know I fall under the spectrum of good-looking wealthy kids, but heres a twist im BLACK not white. When I walk in A&F I feel welcome. I have no desire to “be white” its just a store with clothes. As americans advanced as we are today mere clothing should not be labled by its price tag!! Its ridiculous. ANd for the record ugliness has nothing to do with it. As long as you buy it they dont care how you look or your background DUH!! Ive seen the UGLIEST ppl wearing A&F and even overweight kids who squeeze into it! Its not about wallet size or looks its your taste in clothes and I know that personally. Oft times I get judged for being stuck-up because my collar is up. my collar has nothing to do with my personality, I love the “underdog” I always take up for the kids who dont fit in and it is quite an injustice to judge someone with a sweet heart like mine wrongly because of a moose on their chest.

I wouldnt be caught dead shoppin at wal-mart but some ppl do! I could care less. Im not going to think of them as anyless of a person because of wal-mart. It has nothing to do with me all I can do is be kind…and mature…and not let riches go to my head. because you may be rich one day but it can easily be wiped away before your eyes. its true you cant help the size of your parents wallet and if youre rich youre rich, but be a little more adult like and keep it to yourself and not degrade others for it…maybe then ppl want have such negative impressions of you. and if youre poor, suck it up and stop getting mad at the ppl who want to where what they want to wear. you dont know them personally and their choice of clothing really shouldnt be any of your business. Its called maturity and both rich and poor need a good helping of it because you all sound like a bunch of subordinate fools. By the way im 17…so yeah you adults ought to be ashamed someone my age have to tell you sit down in timeout and reflect your actions!

I see your point but not all of this is true

I work at abercombie in florida and I am NOT white, rich, and snobby. In fact, NO ONE in our store is. I am half asian and there are a lot of other races including like 12 spanish exchange students.
White workers are actually the minority in our store haha..

just showing that the people who work there are normal!
we just like working there and enjoying each other’s company. I think its the young awkward kids that are displaying the snobby side…not the company, store, or its workers.

Alright, let me set the record straight here… I work for Abercrombie & Fitch’s Home Office, and yes, walking around the “campus” as some would call it, is a rather weird experience. This is largely due to the fact that pretty much everyone is dressed head to toe in A&F. We get it DISCOUNTED, and HAVE to fit “THE LOOK” to work there so it only makes sense to go the cheaper route.

As for the store models being rude? I don’t know, I’ve been to a load of retail stores in general that feature grumpy-ass employees. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a fastfood or a CEO (hmm, I would have thought with all that money Jeffries would find a better surgeon!), people are going to have bad days and use strangers as an outlet.

Finally, don’t listen to what the angry A&F lovers are saying, and don’t take the other side to heart either. It’s CLOTHING. Indeed, A&F has their whole “lifestyle” marketing concept, but as citizens of this country, clothing is a requirement unless one would like to adhere to a nice little public nudity charge. Hell, I don’t even wear Abercrombie that much, I prefer Hurley clothes, or crazy t-shirts from thrift stores.

      Hey,
I have been spending the last hour reading all this stuff about how people hate Abercrombie and how some people love it. I personally do think the prices are high but i think the clothing quality is good. And adding on to the whole “only rich people shop there “and how “all the people who work there are snobby” I know alot of people that work there and they happen to be very good friends of mine. They are not snobby in anyway and none of us are rich! To shop there you just have to know how to limit the amout you buy. Like if you LOVE pair of jeans that are 56.50 then save up and buy them later. Or buy ssomething else. There is also a thing called CLEARENCE. That is were i get the clothes that I buy. Some shirts can be as cheap as 5 dollars and some pants can be 20 or 30. Trust me… I’ve bought them.

this is rediculous! I work as a floor model at A&F. I was shopping one day in the store and the manager approached me and asked if i wanted to work there, within a week i was. I’m not stuck up, nor rude to anyone. I like the clothes, but i don’t buy the shirts with abercrombie plastered across the front. I think it’s wrong of all of these people to bash workers/ buyers of A&F and talk about how they’re all so rude and stuck on them selves when you are placing judgement on people you don’t know. Anyone who says appearance isn’t important is a liar. A&F tries to concentrate on a natural look for it’s employees, if someone works there and is naturally pretty there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a choice, no one is forcing you to walk in the store, if you have a problem walk right on by.

ok so lets get some things straight. i happen to work at abercrombie AND im hispanic. im NOT stuck up, cruel, rude, or any of the above. and as a matter of fact i cant think of a single person i work with that is. i cannot believe that some people think that about us. Abercrombie is a lifestyle that promotes natural beauty and self confidence. yeah the brand may be expensive but there is a price for casual luxury.
all i want to say is dont bash us or the brand.
you have no reason to what so ever.
obviously ignorant people will see and think what they want. but its wrong to judge people just for the clothes that they wear or where they work.
