I Can See You’re Unsure of Your Thoughts

July 23rd, 2005

If a tree falls in the forest without anyone hearing it — does it actually make a sound?

The answer of course, over time, has never been answered — but instead I have a better question that we actually can answer. A question related to the ever burgeoning communication circus called IM’ing. And that question, as eloquently as I can pose it, is this:

If an Instant Message is typed, then erased before you ever press return, does the person who was supposed to get that message know that you changed your mind?

The answer is a resounding, YES.

Words For Your Enjoyment: Attention Whores

July 22nd, 2005

Aaah, Friday.

Is it strange that after so many Fridays over the course of our lives, this Friday is just as exciting as all the rest? Is it weird that while every other single item in our lives that repeats over and over again (another cookie, a birthday, lunchtime, the dentist, et al) gets old and boring and before long we can’t bear to experience it any longer — Friday continues to be just as exciting every single time?

It’s sort of like “Words For Your Enjoyment” — fresh, exciting, filled with 94% of all those extra vitamins and minerals you look for in starting off your weekend… And this week, is of course, no different.

Plagiarized Words

July 21st, 2005

Everybody loves Disney.

They own the happiest places on Earth, they own the greatest and most conservative cartoon characters ever created, they control their image to the point of excess — and at every turn they do what they can to spread goodwill and happiness and cheer to all their fans.

That’s why this struck me as so funny.

This week, their most recent feel-good athletic teen superstar movie Ice Princess hits DVD and when I saw the design it brought back memories of another very different movie from the early 80’s. That movie, was called Angel and was about a schoolgirl by day who was a very dangerous hooker/vigilante by night. Funny that Disney would amost identically copy the DVD box of the older movie for their Michelle Trachtenberg movie.

WFME’s You Decide: Affection or Inflection?

July 21st, 2005

It’s an age old question that has been tested throughout History and time, absolute.

In seeking the company of another, what is it that causes them to fall for you? Is it candy? Power? The size of your automobile? Your job? Your money? Your ability to eat three packets of saltine crackers in less than one minute? What is it, exactly, that communicates to another person how you feel about them, what you’re looking for, and how much you care about them.

Most people say it’s all about showing affection.

Audio on Paper

July 20th, 2005

I know my best and this just ain’t it.

But this audio clip of me talking to today’s phone solicitor from the Los Angeles Times is pretty amusing if for only one reason: the deep sigh of death that the solicitor lets loose when he realizes that this is going to be just another one “of those days.”

For that, it’s worth listening to.
