Words About Princes

July 6th, 2005

Just a reminder — The Princes of Malibu premieres this Sunday, July 10th at 8:30/7:30 central on FOX.

The show, which I was a Supervising Producer on, concerns uber music producer David Foster (who is responsible, or guilty, for bringing the world people like Josh Groban and Whitney Houston), his wife and her two sons Brody & Brandon Jenner. The boys, deciding that moving home to their step-dad’s $70 million dollar Malibu estate is the next best career goal, are cut off in the premiere episode and must find ways to make money without pissing David off.

The only problem is that they, well, piss David off. And it looks like they’re pissing off the critics as well:

Entertainment Weekly says, “The boys are worthless, feckless layabouts, living off David’s dime. David is pissed. And there’s your show. Princes proves that if you own a big house somewhere in California and tend to yell a lot, someone will put you on TV.”

I’m not saying they’re right and I’m not saying they’re wrong. I’m just saying I helped produce the darn thing and you should definitely check it out. Hey! It’s only 22 minutes without commercials!

Looking forward to it. As supervising producer, do you get to keep the Malibu estate at the end?

You know I’m gonna watch it.

And I have a new gravatar now.

Umm. Make that, I should have a new gravatar now.

In fact, I did get to keep the estate at the end of the show.

Unfortunately, for me, I couldn’t sell it on eBay, nor would the local Recycler allow me to list it, so I had to just give it back to the family. Figures, doesn’t it?

As a Supervising Producer, were you allowed to slap the ungrateful stepsons?

    I’ll be watching Sunday, Pauly!

Best of luck. And btw, since you listed the time it airs, maybe you also want to reiterate the network, for all of us barely-TV-watchers?

Thanks, Joel. It has been updated.

I watch the commercials for that show and I’m suddenly turned into my mother screaming at the TV - “Get a Job!”

Now that I think about it - what better marketing ploy is there then to have all fox-watching-Americans yelling at the tube; “Get a job!”

    You’re so smart, Mr. D. :-)

I’ll definitely be watching. I saw a preview with the movie screening on the front lawn and thought it was pretty funny. :)

I wanted to watch it. I think I will. Somehow it gives me great satisfaction knowing that there are kids out there who are “taken care of” and act like that. But then again, in some respects I’m a bit envious. I wish I could lie about and piss my dad off.
