The General Lee Big Wheel

November 23rd, 2004

I got this e-mail out of nowhere the other day — in response to nothing I was ever involved in:

I will buy your General Lee big wheel. I have a truck that I lifted and painted like the General. My mother was showing my wife some baby pictures of me. One was of me on the big wheel. I want one to match my truck. I looked all over the internet for one with no luck. What’s your price?

I have never been involved in any General Lee Big Wheel tomfoolery, just so you know. Never sold, pretended to sell, auctioned-off, what not. But still - not being able to leave well enough alone (see: phone solicitors), I responded:

$289

My good friend responded again:

Got any pics? Whats the condition?

To which I responded:

No pictures but it’s in mint condition.

To which he responded:

If you can get me a pic, I’ll send you a money order. You have a camera phone? Snap a pic and send it to my email!!

To which I responded:

If I have to take a picture, it’s gonna cost you $389.

Sadly, that was the last I heard of Mr. General Lee Big Wheel.

I need to remember this the next time someone writes me about Bootleg David Hasselhoff videos, no seriously, someone actually did. It’s amazing what people are looking for these days and we can thank Ebay for it.

      Great site here, Paul.

I wonder if the guy was a Big Wheels collector or a Dukes of Hazzard collector.

Man, I thought I had no life.

lol! Oh, admit it - you still have that big wheel. I wish I still had mine. It was pastel pink and blue and totally obnoxiously “girlie”. But it still sounded like a Harley when I drove it down a paved street.

I refuse to admit I have the General Lee Big Wheel, the first season of ALF on DVD or the classic Parker Brother’s game Volcano Island.

Sad story. When I was in 1st grade I road my Dukes of Hazzard big wheel to my nabors house to play and parked it out in the drive way. Unfortunatly I had parked it next to the garbage bags on garbage day. Talk about a broken heart. It was either learn to ride a real bit or drive around in my sisters strawberry short cake big wheel. BMX it was!!
