Diane Keaton and Her Old, Wrinkly Skin
December 12th, 2003
I had a really disturbing experience tonight. That experience — watching Jack Nicholson rip off Diane Keaton’s sweater and make love to her. Kiss her. Even more disturbing is how close the damn camera is to her face in the whole movie. Some people have been saying things like, “For someone her age, she looks damn good.”
Well you know what — any woman over 60, no matter how good she looks, still looks old. And I don’t want to watch old people (who resemble the same age as my parents) have simulated sex on the movie screen. And I definitely don’t want to see Nicholson’s huge, fat, hairy ass on a huge, fat movie screen.
Something’s Gotta Give, the new movie from the Director of What Women Want has just released a movie that is a 50+ something’s dream. Old people having sex. Old people falling in love. Old people ripping off each other’s clothing, professing their love, and swapping spit.
Until I’m old, I don’t wanna see it.
They look OK. Even Diane Keaton looks good on the above promotional graphic (can you say “airbrush?”). But I just couldn’t stomach it. At first I was uncomfortable with the acting. I just didn’t feel like it was natural. Diane Keaton was overacting. Jack was doing his same old typical character. I wasn’t buying it. Then when the romance started and Jack was cutting off her sweater and making love to her — it just wasn’t hitting a chord with me. The audience was laughing their asses off. The average age of the audience? Fifty.
So. The moral of this half-assed movie review? It’s obviously a movie for an older audience. I’ll admit that when we got to the ending, there was some endearing stuff in there. A “cute” ending. But overall, I just get depressed looking at Jack in all his “load-goodness”. Dude, the guy is HUGE. He looks horrible. I just couldn’t stop thinking to myself, “Dude, can’t the guy lose some weight?”
I’m seeing Big Fish on Sunday. I think I’ll dig that a little bit more than this. As for tomorrow, the painters are coming in to finish the master bedroom, going to a wedding, then Sunday is all about putting the house back together again.
And by the way — Howard Stern’s “America’s Smartest Stripper Conteset” is genius. Such questions that stump them?
An example:
1. What does S.U.V. stand for?
Stripper answer: Ssssssss? Utility Vehicle? Standard Utility Vehicle?
Gotta love it.

I have a different opoinon it`s just a romantic movie and you have to be romantic to like to see the movie. Jack isn`t that big either and if you looked at his ass wasn`t hairy. You hardly even see keaton naked unlike you teenagers I thought this was a good movie.

I loved Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson in this movie. I am in my twenties and I found it to have all of the necessary components that make up a good movie. Thank goodnes the formula for good movies doesn’t contain inane dialogue, gratuitous sex, and mind numbing violence. The movie was great.

I think Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson were absolutely great together, they were really cute in the screen; for me the acting was really natural and I nearly believed they were together in real life. I would give the movie and 8/10

The movie “Somethings Gotta Give” was very natural. They are seasoned actors and they made it look very easy to do. I love Diane Keaton, she is the epitome of class and her role worked so well with Jack that they seemed like they were made for each other. As far as the over 50’s sex as one person described, get used to it, it is as natural as breathing, at any age.

Listen! I am 22 , got that well enough? Yeah 22 , and i loved the movie . One of my brothers is 20 , the other 17 , and they really enjoyed the movie , really laughed. And then , look at all the fans this movie has , and you will se that most of them are young!! And geez , if you can stand to see a older face , maybe you need a shrink , i don’t know. You will get old too! The thing that is so great about this story , is falling in love so late in life , when you know that you’re days are fewer and fewer. And how great it is to find love , when you thing that you will never gona find it. Maybe you should see things more deeply , not just superficial! And Diane acted great , just great , she was just perfect . I wish that Nancy Meyers , didn’t deleted all those scenes , that she did.

I love this movie. I actually had to rewind it a few times to take a slow view of it. I was suprised she did this but applauded her for it. Man I don’t look forward to getting old and making love to old women.. LOL
Aside from the wrinklyness of the movie. I loved it.

I really like this movie. One of my favorite scenes is when Diane Keaton discovers Jack with the other girl, and she’s so crushed. She delivers that so well! Also, when she is crying and writing, while trying to get over him. I’ve been there and done that! She made me feel what she was feeling. Great acting, good movie.

I really like Diane, she’ s just great in that movie and she really really looks very sexy! Of course Jack is brilliant too, although i believe him at least more sensitive for movies like “Shining”, “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” or “departed”.

This review was obviously written by someone who is closed off and narrow minded. Granted I did not like the movie “Something’s Gotta Give,” but it does have great key moments which challenges people’s perceptions on age and beauty. This topic is not limited to images of women but includes men as well. It is obvious that the film is trying to reframe these attitudes outside of our culture’s youth-obsessed media. If this reviewer had such a difficult time with the movie, perhaps he (or she) should stick to programming that don’t require him (or her) to think too much — or outside of the box — like “Muppet Babies” or “The Garbage Pail Kids.”
